Projects October/November

Animal Project

For the animal project I made a mouse a lizard head and a snail. I was going to fire the lizard but the eyes were not scored and slipped correctly so I wasn't able to. If the lizard was glazed I would've used a green color like Irish Luck or Green Thumb The same issue happened with the snail but the eye fell off after it was fired. I was going to glaze the shell with Green Thumb and the body with a brown like Java Bean. The mouse was fired at 05-06 and I used low fire white clay with the Gray Hare glaze to make it come out with a grey shinny look. Both pieces were made with low fire white clay.

Unit 2

Unit 3

Coil pot

For the coil pot project I used low fire white clay and with a glaze cone at 05/06 and I used the Strawberry Sunday crystal glaze to give the piece some pop. I decided to smooth the outside of the pot because I felt that the final product would look better that way. I have not gotten the final glazed piece which is why I don't have a photo of it.

Slab building darts

I decided to make a unique tea cup for the dart piece and I also wanted to give it a unique color as well. That is why I used the Monsoon Seas glaze on the outside to give the piece a pop and used Moody Blue on the inside to compliment the outside color. I used low fire white clay and both glazes fired at the glaze cone 05-06.

Poem piece

For my poem piece I didn't really know what I wanted to make so I kind of just free styled it until I created something that I liked. I went with this piece because I thought that it was interesting and I think it can be interpreted differently for different people. For me I see it as multiple flowers connected together but although they connected they are still different. For this piece I used low fire white clay with Clear glaze at glaze cone 05-06.

3d Monster Piece

My monster was drawn by German and he mad a very interesting piece to say the least. I decided to not make the arms have circles because that would have been nearly impossible for me to do so I made it easier on myself and made the arms fairly normal. I did my best to match the colors from the drawing to the 3D piece. The glazes is used were Hot Tamale, Rosey Posey, Orange-A-Peel, Lemon, Irish Luck, and Black. All glazes at 05-06 and I used low fire white clay.

Slump mold piece

I was trying to make a fish with low fire white clay but when I put the clay on the mold I forgot to put paper on the surface of the mold so when I tried to take the piece of the mold it didn't come off because it was stuck to the mold. If the piece wasn't stuck to the mold I would've glazed it multiple blue colors and added other details like gills and other fish features.

Sgrafifto pieces

I made these pieces trying to create my poem piece and I ended up going with the white one. I made all these pieces either a tree or a flower trying to make naturistic pieces. I have not gotten the final product of the piece in the bottom right which is why I don't have a photo of the final product. For the piece on the right I used the Java Bean, Blueberry Hill, and Green Thumb glazes. I used clear glaze for the piece below this and used Blueberry Hill for the piece in the bottom right as well. For all pieces I used low for white clay and all glazes fired at 05-06.
